What do I need to Start

Brazilian Jui Jitsu is practiced in two predominate forms, “Gi” and “no gi” the latter also being refereed to as grappling. Having a Gi is not a requirement to start training at the Oregon Pound, should the need arise we can look into the possibility to make arrangements for a Gi. Formal Gi’s bearing our academy symbol and ALLIANCE could also be purchased. Any athletic gear can be used when beginning to roll in “no Gi”, moisture wicking is recommended. A lack of any “gear” should not deter anyone from trying the first day of class. Make sure to check out our fundamentals class description or see what more kids could learn from the BJJ art.

Some gear that some practitioners prefer

  • headgear
  • mouth guard

Some practitioners of BJJ use these items for extra protection. The head gear can be utilized to protect against what some call “cauliflower ear”.
